Originally posted by Kflyer View PostOn this particular day, there was a disabled 8D a/c on runway for a short period - which must have been the reason. A/C are often allowed to land during the closure if they are short of fuel to hold and no heavy modification work is ongoing. The closure was anyway only for an hour or so and TK appears to have opted to layover at MAA.

The two C130s were aquired in 1998 from the RAF. Originally 3 were going to be aquired but the third was too old and had excessive damage. During CBKs time all kinds of ridiculous decisons were made with that clown and her relatives (Ratwatte) all playing soldier during the war period. The C130s had been used by the RAF for nearly 20 years when SL purchased them for the price of brand new aircraft.
furthemore even though we got the two C130s from the RAF, US Congressional approval was needed for the sale. It would have been better to purchase two brand new C130s from the US directly back then.Last edited by Praetorian; 13-02-2013, 10:09 PM.

Cinnamon Air is a domestic airline based in Bandaranaike International Airport, Colombo. It is set to begin flights to domestic destinations in Sri Lanka. The start-up fleet will consist of two Cessna 208 aircraft (seating nine passengers each) and one wheeled Cessna 208B Grand Caravan (seating 12 passengers) that would provide the flexibility for the airline to operate from any of the Domestic and International airports as well as from waterdromes in Sri Lanka.
