    • Wow this is great! An awesome development for SL tourism and the aviation industry. Turkish Airlines, Korean Air and now British Airways have all commenced flights this year. Hope more routes will continue to build to CMB!

Any possibilities British Airways would operate the Colombo service from Heathrow instead of Gatwick ? There are more Sri Lankan community living around in Heathrow. I doubt they will go upto Gatwick to take the BA flight.

Too much competition i think from Heathrow, several airlines including UL of course fly London-Colombo, although most operate via the middle east..

In the link above if you click BA"s Gatwick destinations, they are all leisure destinations such as Orlando, Las Vegas etc. BA's CMB initiative is purely to tap leisure travelers and doesn't looks like it is ready to cater regular business or diaspora travelers. If they are to start from LHR it will be direct service and will compete with UL (Another Oneworld member - hopefully)

BTW, Banu any update on UL joining "Oneworld" (on track/ behind /still not sure / will be in by .......) !!

              • On the 14-Apr-2013, EK4906 flight from DXB to HKG was seen on CMB ? Any body know why this flight visited CMB ? Shed some light on this ! Normally Emirates doesn't operate on DXB-CMB-HKG pax route. But they did Freighter ops on DXB-CMB-HKG some time back that now stopped.

No actually EK 348 grounded in CMB due to crack in fusalrge or something. Then they delayed the flight untill 2000hrs and used another 777 which came as EK652 from dxb-mle-cmb insted of grounded 777 to SIN. again they brought a chater 777 fom dxb to operate EK 653 from CMB-MLE-DXB...

                      • Another Aussie charter ran between XCH - CMB - XCH last week for an obvious reason.
