    only 2000m of the runway is usable at the moment as a lot of repair works are being carried out, i guess thats the reason

      • I finally made it to Washington Dulles, my first time there since early March! It was great to click a few shots of some heavies during the afternoon rush hour of flights from Europe and the Middle East.

        Saudi Arabian Airlines Boeing 777-200ER


        United Airlines Boeing 737-800


        Virgin Atlantic Airbus A330-300


        United Parcel Service Airbus A300F parked on the cargo ramp


        Saudi Boeing 777-200ER parked with a South African Airbus A340-300, which reaches IAD from Johannesburg via Dakar, Senegal


        United Airlines Boeing 757-200


        Lufthansa Airbus A340-300 parked next to Austrian 767-300ER

          Nice shots! I am curious to know what time does this SA land and take off in IAD! Because SA send two daily flights to LHR from JNB as both SA flights land at LHR in the early morning 06:25/06:55 then they take off from LHR to JNB around 19:00/21:00 when aircraft spends around 13 hours in ground at LHR . It's a matter of red-eye flight. Wiki mentions, From a marketing standpoint, the red-eye flights allow business travelers an opportunity to migrate eastward without having an impact on a full business day.

              Interesting! SAA does similar here at IAD. It arrives every morning shortly before 06:00. It then proceeds to sit at its gate until 17:55 when it departs back to JNB via DKR. I would think that South African must spend quite a bit on gate fees, as their aircraft sit idle at these airports throughout entire days. It's good for us spotters, as the South African A340s are the plane that you are gaurenteed to get a shot of if you visit IAD during daylight hours!

                  Concorde for decoration between taxiways at Heathrow. And the Arik Air A345 is used on both their London and New York JFK routes as far as I know. I don't think they would usw it for any routes just inside Africa.

                    These are beautiful shots! Nice catch of the 100th A380 as well as the American 777-300ER. Although I miss American's old metal livery, I am starting to get used to this new one, especially on the 777-300ER!

                      that snap of Arik maybe it is going off-lease .. I am not sure but heard they are dumping their leased aircraft .. or planning to do so

                          I think Arik is dry-leasing a couple of ex-Aer lingus A332s to replace their two A345s.

                          This is a picture of one of the A332s which is due to delivered to Lagos soon.

                              Don't they tow the South African A340 and park it in ramp before it departs back to JNB.

                                For some strange reason they never do. Not really sure why. But for the entire day, the South African A340 is always sitting at that gate. I would think that they pay a high gate fee for that! While Dulles is not a hugely busy airport compared to JFK, O'hare or Atlanta-Hartsfield, there is a fair amount of international traffic in the afternoon to that terminal. There must be some reason why they don't move it.
