I came to know one will remain in operation for another 6- 9 months and the other will be returned by end of Aug 2012. However I cannot see any official announcement from UL side and timetable for Air Taxi remain unchanged.

Hi all,
I have been reading this forum over a few months with keen interest and decided to join.
I have a 2 part question
1. I am flying from BKK-CMB-BKK on J class in mid Dec & early Jan, what are the chances of experiencing the new J class product?
2. Any truth to the rumours that UL will start a DEC charter service between CMB-SYD-MEL?
Thanks!

British Airways earmarks Colombo return
British Airways is planning to resume flights to Colombo, after pulling out from the Sri Lankan capital some ten years ago.
According to Sri Lankan aviation authorities, the UK flag carrier plans to operate thrice-weekly services between London (Gatwick) and Colombo via Male, beginning next March. Currently, the only direct connection between London and Colombo are daily flights operated by SriLankan Airlines.
“It’s a very good move. There will be (increased) positivity and confidence when an airline like BA starts flying to Colombo,” said Michael Elias, CEO of Walkers Tours, which represents Kuoni, Virgin Holidays and Thomas Cook in Sri Lanka.
Elias added that flying from Gatwick in South London would be a boon, as some of the main outbound travel operators such as Kuoni and Virgin Holidays had offices nearby.
Chaminda Dias, executive director, Luxe Asia, said the return of BA would lend credibility to Sri Lanka’s efforts to ramp up tourism development. “It will legitimise the fact that Sri Lanka is normal and ready for tourism,” he said.

Routes is the home of the world’s leading aviation network development conferences and events. Plus aviation news and features, and profiles of global airlines and airports.
BTW this is a very good sign that finally a European mainline carrier is coming back to SL after so many years of absence.
Banu, do you have a list of other mainline carriers operated to SL before the war. I know KLM, Lufthansa, Swissair operated but may be you (or someone else) have a better compilation.Last edited by CalgaryLankan; 15-08-2012, 03:03 PM.

I still remember Aeroflot used to operate SVO-KHI-CMB on Mondays and Wednesdays using A310 which used to land in CMB at 12:10 then depart at 22:40 after spending around 10 hours in Colombo.
As far as I know Lufthansa never operated a pax operations to Colombo though LTU and Condor Flug used to connect Colombo with Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Dusseldorf in 2000s. Lufthansa Cargo flew on FRA-SHJ-BLR-CMB 3 x weekly on MD11Fs.
