Quick check-in, less queues soon at Colombo airport
Quick check-ins and fewer queues at the Colombo airport are among the improvements by SriLankan Airlines planned this year along with consolidating its operations and route network.
The airline’s Chief Marketing Officer, G.T. Jayaseelan said the airline would not be operating new sectors, nor acquiring new aircraft but rather focus on improving the product.
He said they are adding flatbeds to all business class seats to Europe, which is a standard facility on business class in all airlines. SriLankan is installing a check-in kiosk at the Colombo airport to enable independent check-in by passengers and reduce waiting time in queues.
Mr Jayaseelan said passengers have the convenience of going straight to the kiosk, without waiting in the queue, and check in and walk away with the boarding pass; that is if they are travelling with only hand luggage.
Another facility being introduced is that airline staff with hand-held devices would check-in passengers from the queues, in addition to the counter check-in.
The airline plans to focus mostly on India and China this year and adjust flights and increase capacity if there is a requirement.
Budget carrier, Mihin Lanka, part of the SriLankan Airlines group, is also due to add Delhi to its destinations.

Looks like July 31 will be the last scheduled passenger service for a B747 by SV. Will this be the last one for any scheduled passenger airline as well? Anyone else operating 747's (PAX) to CMB?

Yes, I think it's a right thing to do - improving the product is most important for SriLankan rather than they launching new destinations and acquiring new aircraft. If I'am not mistaken most of our A330s have got the new business cabins. ALH currently undergoing cabin refurbishment but ALD hasn't had it's refurbishment yet and ALG still on ex-BMI. In A343s, ADE & ADF only have got new business cabins while ADG still operate on ex-CX. Still on old cabins, ADA,ADB,ADC likely to leave the fleet early part of next year. @Sakith - Please correct me if I'am wrong.
It's look like UL will consolidate their flight network due to shortage of aircraft during the Cabin Refurbishment. It is likely most of the widebodies (excl ADA,ADB,ADC) should have new cabins by end of this year.

Hello Banuthev,
Thanks for your warm welcome and your answer concern cargo rate.
Yes, I found a balloon. We will take the offer from walker tours. Start at 6am in Galle, for 60 minutes, 175U$, at least 3 persons. So it fits perfectly to our requirements.

SriLankan Airlines to join oneworld by CAPA Aviation Analysis

SriLankan Airlines is hoping that joining the oneworld alliance will help further its revival as the carrier continues to expand following the end of Sri Lanka's civil war in 2009.
