Pilots Overworked And Underpaid?
The management of SriLankan Airlines is accused of failing to recruit pilots to fill the vacancies for pilots and pushing the existing staff to overwork to substitute the work.
Although the airline is in a dire need for 275-300 pilots there are only 200 pilots working at present and the entire workload has to be shared amongst them which has been strenuous over the years. Although the situation is as such, it is learnt that many have been recruited for other posts through alleged political influence although they do not have any specified jobs to be carried out.
Hence it is a 13 month year for the SriLankan Airlines pilots as they have got to work 28 days per month which is 13 months per year as the airline has failed to recruit the required number of pilots over the past 10 years.
On conditions of anonymity sources from SriLankan Airlines told The Sunday Leader that due to breaking rest over the years, the pilots are now prone to critical illnesses and more than 10 pilots have already undergone bypass operations during the past four years which is a high percentage comparing to the past 30 years.

British Airways today resumed flights to Sri Lanka, nearly 15 years after the service was suspended due to the country’s three-decade long civil war.
A British Airways Boeing 777 touched down at Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport this afternoon, marking the resumption of services, the Ministry of Economic Development said.
The service was suspended in 1998 owing to the Island’s armed conflict that ended in 2009.
The new thrice-a-week London-Colombo-London sector will service London’s Gatwick airport on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
British Airways said the service would be a boon to British travellers to Sri Lanka.
Over 1,14,000 British tourists visited Sri Lanka last year, which is second only to Indian tourists.
“Sri Lanka has emerged as one of the most popular destinations among leisure and business travellers from Britain and Europe,” Christopher Fordyce, Regional Manager - South Asia, British Airways said.Comment

I think there is no point of refurbishing the A343s with flat beds since these birds are soon leaving the fleet also the replacements brand new six A333s are coming soon. Especially 4R-ADA, 4R-ADB and 4R-ADC won't be in the fleet next year.Comment

This is definitely not good, even on a short haul flight. cayman: I had to endure SIN-CMB and Return.
My next flight KUL-CMB will never be on UL, as I saw the 320-214s in KUL as well
better by any other airline, when going Y Class !!
Suddenly Tiger Airways seems attractive, for the 3.5 hour straight seat
And CX too is priced attractive-SIN-CMB !!!
If not for the 35 KG per pax luggage and govt travellers, UL maybe half emptyComment

Agreed about refurbishing the A340s. Not sure why they even refurbished one in the first place. BTW I dont think ALD and ALG are refurbished (look at the seat configs- theyre different from the other A332s) so I think only 5 A332s are refurbished. Damn! UL needs to have a product manager who compares their product with their competitors to make sure its leading edge (and competitive). Even their new Business Class will become outdated quickly since it has no direct aisle access. Nevertheless it is much better than before.
