Sri Lankan Airline flight has narrow escape as two tyres burst on landing at Delhi's IGi airport:
Passengers onboard a Sri Lankan Airline plane had a miraculous escape today when two tyres of the aircraft burst after landing at the IGI airport here. The incident took place at around 6.55 PM when Sri Lankan Airline flight (UL 195), with over 70 passengers and crew onboard from Colombo, landed after second attempt, airport sources said. The pilots had aborted their first attempt of landing due to turbulence caused by the crosswinds at the airport and the air traffic control tower asked them to take a go-around for the second attempt, they said. As soon as the flight landed and was on taxiway, the pilots messaged the ATC tower about some technical problem saying the brakes of the aircraft had failed. A team of Delhi International Airport Limited officials were sent to tow the aircraft to the terminal building, but after reaching there they found that two rear tyres of the Boeing 737 plane had burst, the sources said. As towing the aircraft in that state was not possible, the passengers, who all were safe, and baggage were offloaded at the taxiway itself and taken in buses to the terminal building, they said. With the aircraft stuck on the taxiway, the flight movement at the airport was affected and the taxiway was closed for operations and aircraft had to take detour to reach the terminal. The airline was getting a new set of wheels and tyres and then the aircraft would be towed to the terminal, sources said. (source: India Today)

Looks like RJ trying to use A320/A321 on CMB route due to shortage of widebody aircraft for medium/long-haul services. As per RJ sources, RJ has only seven widebodies that includes three brand new A330-200s and four of the 20 years old A340-200s.

Possible Future UL Routes to Australia?
I know that Air Lanka used to have routes to Melbourne and Sydney back in the day. I am curious as to why UL has not resumed any of these routes, seeing as Australia has one of the largest Sri Lankan populations outside of Sri Lanka. I would think that any airline operating a route from Colombo to Australia would have good passenger loads and profit. Are there any plans for UL to open Australian routes? And why has Qantas nor V Australia decided to open flights to Sri Lanka? Any ideas?

Q2 to resume services to CMB
Maldivian Airlines is starting flights on the GAN-CMB-GAN route this August using an Airbus A320-200 or a Bombardier Dash8 Q-300

they could use the DHC-6 Twin Otter coz it could be low cost for them as their engineers are familliar with the aircraft and thereby opperate 2 flights daily also consider operations to Palaly Trincomalee and Koggala.....
or also Expo air should do something as well

Aaqib : Twotters are out of production .. for now.
And your advice is useless .. firstly, I doubt anybody would want to go all the way to Katunayake and take the plane to HRI and go where ? when you can drive down
Forget this .. the idea of CMB - HRI is to use the HRI airport, not for primarily pax traffic to show HRI has usage .. ..
I maybe wrong there though ..
A better option would be to use a larger plane, ATR or something like that, HRI-> CMB and Trinco, Palaly etc route .. though since SLAF has Ma 60s, they may come online soon .. just wait .
PS: the DHC 6 of Air taxi were wet leased .. so doesn't mean much for UL's expertise. If I were to charter / lease a DHC6 or something of that size, including the Let 410 or BN 2T, the engineers for such expertise galore ..and come cheap ..
