hey all...UL gonna re-launch Melbourne ops Jan 2015
Good news if it's true. But Dailynews is not a good source, in my opinion.

We are looking at operating three frequencies per week," he said. An office of the airline was opened in Melbourne last year.
As per Australia-Sri Lanka Air Service Agreement, UL has to operate minimum of four frequencies per week to Australia.

Very sensible move. They should also cut down on unprofitable European frequencies, especially to Italy.

thats true banuthev, waiting for the same piece of info from trusted sources like daily mirror or lbo

but its a very good move by UL, and i remember the UL first 3 A333 delivery dates were oct - 2014, dec 2014 and feb 2015, so i assume UL gonna place the a333 to mel, and this info might be correct...

under the name of air lanka, both Sydney and Melbourne were served. but under the brand name sri lankan only Sydney was served till early 2001.

                    • From the article:-

SriLankan Airlines hopes to fly to Melbourne from next year
I've been hearing "soon" or "next year" since 2005. I see we are back to "hopes". Means absolutely nothing.

European flights are frequently flown at Maximum Take-off Weight. They are also flown on a re-dispatch flightplan (maximum payload/minimum fuel). Eastbound flights are often too heavy to re-dispatch. It is not unusual to reach Maximum Landing Weight just prior to starting descent.

European destinations are premium routes. Example Singapore Airlines are running 4 daily flights into London Heathrow - 3 have been upgraded to A380 and the 4th is a 777. All Emirates flights into London Heathrow are now A380 - and those flights are full. I've flown London Heathrow - Dubai quite a bit in the last few months. Only about 20% of the passengers get off in Dubai.

UL has reduced frequencies and downgraded capacity and can't make money on European routes. They have also lost cargo contracts including at least one that was profitable.

There is something very wrong with the UL business model if they can't make money with full aircraft.

I think 4R-ABQ still in Zurich awaiting delivery and UL may also take delivery of ex-A7-ADY and A7-ADZ

Any idea which are the best routes for SriLankan A321 ?

                          12:30 - 13:10 - UL133 - A320 - 1 3 5 7 (CMB-HRI-TRZ-CMB)
                          09:50 - 10:30 - UL319 - A320 - 4 (CMB-KUL-HRI-CMB)
                          16:40 - 17:20 - UL128 - A320 - 2 6 (CMB-MAA-HRI-CMB)
Any idea why SriLankan reduced Beijing flights from 5 to 3 weekly and Shanghai flights from 5 to 4 weekly ? Is it because of shortage of wide-body aircraft and it seems to be 4R-ADA is not in service last few days if I'm not mistaken. Somebody confirm.

Guys 4R-ADA (Alpha Delta Alpha) is gone out from Sri Lankan.. (Not anymore in the fleet) It is said to be that the owner, who UL leased it from has taken it back again from Sri Lankan.. (No idea of who the owner is)
