        • Kapila quits UL, Rakhitha to oversee till full-time CEO comes on board

Kapila Chandrasena has resigned as CEO of SriLankan Airlines this week and Board Director Rakhitha Jayawardena, an airline industry specialist, is overseeing the national carrier. Sources said that Rakhitha will be CEO until a person is found to permanently fill the position. Rakhitha is among new appointees to the Board of SriLankan Airlines following the change of Government.

He had worked at the national carrier when it was known as AirLanka and is now an entrepreneur in the airline industry specialising in retailing with over 30 years experience. Last year, at the annual Airline Retail Conference (ARC) in London, Rakhita, described as an inflight retail veteran (of King Power Traveller) was named Inflight Personality of the Year. The resignation of Chandrasena comes amidst the establishment of a four-member Board of Inquiry, led by legal activist J.C. Weliamuna, tasked with probing any abuse of power by the Chairman and the Board as well as violations of rules and regulations, in national carrier SriLankan Airlines between 2006 and 2014. Chandrasena took over as CEO of Sri Lankan Airlines in August 2011 and also oversaw Mihin Air. A qualified professional, Chandrasena holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Chicago and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Melbourne. He was also CEO of Mobitel once.

Good move! SriLankan needs the CEO who has the aviation background. Are they going to appoint the CEO from Local or from the abroad?

            • Is 4R-ALC getting new economy class refurbishment? Are all A330-200 with new economy class, except 4R-ALG. Is 4R-ALG getting retrofitted?

Dad's flying out of CMB tonight (on the SpiceJet red eye to MAA, and he'll return on the same from MAA).
I'll ask him to keep an eye out for it, although, these awkwardly timed red eye flights do demand quite a bit of eye-shut!

                  Regards
                  Jish

Mihin should rename and fuction as a subsidery of Srilankan but as budget carrier. This is my thoughts about it.

                              • Manoj Gunawardena to make comeback as SriLankan CEO?
                                2015-03-11 11:02:17

Former SriLankan Airlines CEO Manoj Gunawardena is tipped to make a comeback with Kapila Chandrasena tendering resignation on Monday, sources said.
Manoj, who was with the airline for over 30 years when it was Air Lanka under the management of Emirates, was appointed as the CEO in 2008.
But Chandrasena, who was heading Mihin Air at the time, was appointed SriLankan CEO in 2011. Subsequently, Gunawardena was made Director Promotions, Europe and was stationed in London.

However, other sources said the post of SriLankan CEO will be advertised and due procedure will be followed in making the appointment.
Manoj is the half brother of Sri Lanka Freedom Party MP Sajin Vaas Gunawardena.
According to recent media reports, one time SriLankan CEO Peter Hill (under Emirates’ management) has also been hired as a consultant.
