Since 30/3/2015 it's been parked in the CMB tarmac (C25/C26 i guess) and I believe end of this month 4R-ADC will fly to Tarbes–Lourdes–Pyrénées Airport in France for scrap and part out.
Is there any ceremony for the retirement of UL's three x A340-311s which were doing the great job for our national carrier for over 20 years. Has anybody had chance to fly on 4R-ADA, 4R-ADB or 4R-ADC in the past?
I have flown all 3 of these including at least 2 of them in Air Lanka livery and also sat on jumpseat couple of times. They definitely need a send-off!!

Expected stuff, to see kids get selected, as long as you play your cards right, no blame on him though .. the system of allowing friends and cronies to get postings let it happen !
I am still amazed and would love to emulate his specialised Skills, knowledge and understanding of Global Airline Industry (does anybody know what they were ?? )

National airlines don't go bankrupt, they get more money pumped in .. if not, can you explain the existence of Mihin, for a start ??

Exim Bank of China, CATIC aircraft deal murky; mired in false feasibility: probe report
A Sri Lanka government inquiry into aircraft purchases has uncovered shocking details of how an opaque deal sanctioned from the top and justified with cooked up feasibility studies were made with the Exim Bank of China and a Chinese state firm.
Board of Inquiry that probed into Sri Lanka's loss-making state-run airlines during the ousted Rajapaksa regime recommended that the procurement of two Chinese-made Xian MA 60 aircraft by Sri Lanka be further investigated for criminal liability

There is no such thing as "Too big to fail". Nothing is as strange as reality.
I'm sure on January 07 Kapila and Nishantha thought they'd be holding their posts for years to come and they would never be held accountable for their actions.
The big picture is that Sri Lanka is running out of money (or has already run out - hard to say due to the lack of transparency) and there may not be any money to keep the Airline running.
The Airline is already technically insolvent. Page 111 and 112 of the report do not paint a pretty financial picture. It's clear they will need massive amounts of funding in the near future (just to keep operating). Where this money is going to come from is unclear at this point.
Personal opinion:- A bankruptcy is a realistic scenario. There may not be any other option.
As for Mihin - this is a result of one man's megalomania with nobody brave enough to say "no". It is increasingly clear this Airline was being used to "launder" public funds. There needs to be a full investigation followed by criminal prosecutions here as well.
Kapila has already been implicated. There's always more than one cockroach!
Mihin is still running because nobody is brave enough to close it down. A merger with UL is just an attempt to avoid dealing with the problem.
How many Aviation Ministers have there been since the election? 3? It's clear nobody wants to touch this.Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find this business
