Is this a temporary reduction due to runway closure or a permanent move?

I thought UL were doing well on this route.

Runway maintenance is from Jan 2017 to Apr 2017. Why do they have to reduced the CAN flights from Nov 2016? I think it's a permanent move due to shortage of aircraft.

Another bad news ! Mihin Lanka is operating last flight to Lahore on 19-Sep ! I think SriLankan should take over the Lahore from Mihin Lanka. I heard from reliable sources Mihin Lanka have average 95% pax load on Colombo-Lahore-Colombo route.

              • wants to be a regional airline and expand flights to asian destinations and then cuts down existing profitable regional and asian routes

Current UL management for you. At this rate Druk Air, Maldivian and Nepal Airlines will be larger carriers than UL.

At the current pace of cutting off revenue streams there might not be a UL for much longer. You notice how they keep getting rid of aircraft and axing routes but not a single politically appointed muppet has been shown the door yet. Corruption from the previous regime and lack of backbone from the current one will continue to sink this airline.

On another front Cramer and his little band of rebels continue to give management the finger:

Only in Sri Lanka would idiots like this not be terminated immediately. I'm just happy that some FAs are atleast trying to kick these fools out.

Turkish Airlines and Garuda interested in SriLankan Airlines

Four airlines – Turkish Airlines, Hainan – China’s largest privately-owned air transport firm, Japan’s ANA and Indonesia’s Garuda Airlines – have shown interest in crisis-hit SriLankan Airlines which is looking for a partner, official source said. They also said BNP Paribas and KPMG appointed as transaction advisors in Sri Lankan Airlines’ quest to find a strategic partner have tapped a number of foreign airlines in creating an ‘appetite’ towards a partnership with the debt-ridden national carrier. ”The two agencies solicited certain parties by discussing with certain airlines in their data base/airlines that they work with,” a top official close to the restructuring of the national carrier told the Business Times.

He added that as both parties have international presence, they tapped these airlines to send in their Expressions of Interest (EOI). “They did their own solicitations and some were successful,” he said. NSB Fund Management (NSBFM), a unit of state-run National Saving Bank (NSB) and the lead managers to airline’s restructuring drive, said that while there’re eight EOI confirmed for the national carrier, two more are being finalised.NSB Chairman Asvin de Silva told the Business Times that a project management team under NSBFM has already received eight EOI and two are still being worked out.

The EOI timeline for the ‘reorientation’ of SriLankan Airlines and Mihin Lanka has been extended by a week until August 31, as the ‘appetite’ for the EOI was encouraging, he said. ”We extended the EOI closing date till end of this month. By about end of September we’ll be collecting the EOIs. Once we go through them, we aim to shortlist the EOI and call the shortlisted parties to submit proposals,” he said adding after this they will get these parties to carry out a due diligence on the airline.

                          My thoughts exactly!

                          UL has zero economic value.

If I understand correctly GOSL wants to keep control whilst outsourcing the Management. Who is going to accept this?

There is no way to ever make this profitable - why would anyone continue to pour in money to keep things running?

The sooner UL is shut down the better for the people of Sri Lanka imho.

The Theft/Fraud/Corruption/Incompetence and Racketeering needs to end!
Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find this business

yeah so what? Look, the current UL management spokesman is here. But still SO WHAT, he can't understand logic. How can you be profitable by cutting down profitable routes with 90%+ demand on each flight (do you have an idea how well routes like CGK, LHE, DAC and BAH are performing?). Still so what ? you might not understand plain english
