Yes! They soon will start in my opinion.

          • Super Group ahead in race for SriLankan

Super Group Partners Company Ltd–a joint venture between Trans Maldivian Airways and the Singaporean ground-handling firm SATS–has scored highest among ten bidders vying for a management stake in cash-strapped SriLankan Airlines, an authoritative source told the Sunday Times.
Following at a close second is Peace Air, a company owned by businessman Gamini Wettasinghe

Not sure whatever happened to ANA, various other airlines and Blackrock investments. Probably the product of someone's very fertile imagination in the government. Very worrying for me is Peace Air surfacing again and in second place. They were there as a rivel bid when EK bid for UL as well then. With such ambitious plans in the past 25 years they never got off the ground whilst companies like Cinnamon Air, Expo Air etc have established themselves.

Having someone like this at 2nd place is very bad and if somehow they win they could end up driving UL to the ground.

Agree in regards to Peace Air. Also Trans Maldivian Airways is owned by Blackstone so maybe they'll use this bid to combine the airlines or something? However SATS bidding with Trans Maldivian Airways makes no sense to me.

SATS used to be part of the Singapore Airlines Group and was divested from SIA on 1 Sep 2009 & The company also changed its name from Singapore Airport Terminal Services Limited to SATS Ltd on 30 July 2010.

At Singapore Changi Airport, SATS handles 80% of scheduled flights and serves about 50 of the scheduled 68 airlines out of Singapore.

At SATS, our purpose to feed and connect Asia reflects our ambition to drive positive impact not just across our business but also for our customers, industry partners, shareholders and employees.

                  • Blackstone Groups second-quarter profit rose from a year earlier, helped by buoyant credit and real-estate markets that boosted the value of its holdings.

The Blackstone Group Revenue - USD 7.484 billion

According to the article Super Group Partners Company Ltd–a joint venture between Trans Maldivian Airways and the Singaporean ground-handling firm SATS wants an 80 percent stake in SriLankan.

                    It’s a very good deal with US$ 5 billion package for partnership…

Maybe they are taking full use of these ex-MJ aircraft before they are returned to the lessor in January

As far as I know, SriLankan Airlines is looking at serving the destinations in East Africa via Seychelles onboard A320 aircraft.

                            • SriLankan is going ahead with its business plan amidst privatisation moves. The airline has terminated the leases on three new A350s. They were due for completion in October and November 2016, CEO Suren Ratwatte said. SriLankan had tough negotiations with the Dutch firm Aerocap for the termination of the leases.
“Termination of this sort of agreement is very rare,” he explained. “Usually, the lessors force the airline to take delivery. The terms included extension of one leased A330 aircraft, which we would have done anyway, and acquisition of another in 2017, which we need for our business plan

If i'm not mistaken, SriLankan Airlines is going to extend the lease of A330-200. Am I correct ?

                              • SriLankan Airlines voted Leading International Airline at Maldives Travel Awards 2016

Sri Lanka’s national carrier and oneworld member, SriLankan Airlines has once again won the Leading International Airline title at the prestigious Maldives Travel Awards.

Viewed as SriLankan’s extended home market, the airline currently connects the Maldivian capital to its extensive route network 21 times a week. On 1 December 2016, the airline will expand its operations to Gan Island of Addu Atoll in the Maldives, becoming the first and the only international airline to serve the spectacular destination.

Mr. Sujeewa Rodrigo, Area Manager Maldives at SriLankan Airlines, said upon receiving the award: “We are truly delighted to receive this award yet again. This would not have come at a better time than now, as we add the second Maldivian destination to our connectivity map. As an airline, it is our duty to provide our passengers with convenient connections across the globe and an award of this nature is evidence that we have surpassed expectations and made a significant contribution to tourism in the Maldives.”

The award ceremony, held at Olhuveli Beach Resort & Spa in the Maldives, is organised annually by the Maldives Association of Travel Agents & Tour Operators (MATATO), with the aim of enhancing service standards of the Maldivian tourism industry. Every year, the patrons and passengers vote for their most preferred travel and hospitality services providers for the acclaimed titles.
