  • SriLankan expands network to Yangon in deal with Myanmar Airways

SriLankan Airlines will expand its network to Yangon in a codeshare partnership with Myanmar Airways International (MAI) on flights to Bangkok and Singapore from 1st June 2017 to take advantage of growing tourist traffic.

MAI will codeshare on flights operated by SriLankan between Colombo and Bangkok, and Colombo and Singapore, a statement said.

“Passengers will enjoy the conveniences of the partnership, such as a single ticket itinerary and interlined luggage.”

“Myanmar is currently experiencing considerable growth in tourism, and we are confident that the addition of Yangon will strengthen our network and help serve the needs of our customers,” SriLankan Airlines’ Chief Commercial Officer Siva Ramachandran said.

“Extending SriLankan Airlines’ network to Yangon was part of our dynamic strategy of focusing on the Asia-Middle East region, which is the fastest growing market for global air travel.”

SriLankan has in recent months expanded its codeshare agreements with several other airlines in order to strengthen its network and provide enhanced travel options for its customers.

Delays in clearing cargo in Sri Lanka is pushing up costs for business and consumers, undermines global competitiveness and is also promoting competitiveness, according to a Ceylon Chamber of Commerce paper.

    • Qatar Airways Cargo adds Colombo, Dublin to pharma network

With Colombo just added to Qatar Airways Cargo’s Pharma Network, and Dublin set to come online June 12, the carrier’s pharmaceutical transport network will soon reach 73 destinations globally.

The soon-to-commence Dublin route will be serviced by 787 flights, connecting Doha to “one of the leading global hubs for the pharmaceutical industry,” with nine of the top ten largest pharmaceutical companies operating in Ireland.

In Colombo, the carrier is betting on the country’s Export Processing Zone, which opened last year, to turn Sri Lanka from a net importer of pharmaceuticals and healthcare products to an exporter.

Qatar Airways Cargo will offer its specialist pharmaceuticals transport solution, called “QR Pharma,” on the routes, which has proven effective in mitigating the extreme temperatures at its home base in Qatar. Sri Lanka, with its own extreme temperatures and underdeveloped infrastructure, is a strong candidate for self-contained transportation solutions, such as QR Pharma.

Thanks. It looks like test / acceptance flight is being done every other three days. Any chance for pictures? May be final acceptance flight on 04/05th June prior to registration change from D-AVYO to 4R-ANC. May be it will be ferried to Colombo by 12th June. Correct me if I am wrong.

Far as I know, we are not retiring any A330s for the time being... But some A320/1 will be retired (most likely the ex MJ aircrafts). but not in less than 6 months.

Thank you. You're correct. JED is Daily.

Currently UL is serving Middle East Destinations with Daily but except for Dammam which is only 4 weekly. Why does UL is not increasing the Dammam flights?

                        They'd probably Utilize their A319.

                        • Members any idea of what sort of an impact the Qatar crisis would leave on the aviation industry here in sri lanka. Any ideas on upcoming air fares would be. Airlines like EK,EY,SV,GF,FZ,G9 have all stopped it's operations to DOH. Now keeping in mind that most of these carriers hauled quite a lot of passengers to DOH through transit and they now has terminated operations, this leaves only UL,QR,KU(transit) operating the CMB-DOH sector. Now will this mean the air fares between this sector would possibly increase. And will we see more fifth freedom flights operated between this sector, will airlines like Royal Jordanian return or will airlines like Oman air increase frequency to cater this market gap.

We know that already and it's obvious. The post was about other airlines involvement in this sector.
What I am trying to mean is that as an effect of the crisis Rates would sky rocket in the CMB-DOH sector if only airlines like UL start serving this route.
