Govt. to operate SriLankan on 51-49 equity partnership

The government is prepared to grant 49 percent of the equity of SriLankan airlines together with its management to a private partner, Public Enterprise Development Minister Lakshman Kiriella told Daily Mirror today.
He said a consultant had been appointed to make recommendations for the restructuring of the national carrier.
“With regard to the equity we will retain 51 percent of the shares,” he said.
The minister said the airline would be restructured on the basis of a Private Public Partnership as envisaged by this government. (Kelum Bandara)

SriLankan Airlines’ new board
A new board of directors to SriLankan Airlines has been finalised and expected to be appointed next week with a former banker tipped to be appointed chairman, airline sources said.
They said that the delay in the appointment of a new board after the current board chaired by Ajith Dias, agreed to step down on November 30 to help in the restructure of the airline, was also due to last month’s elections and a new minister (Lakshman Kirella) being appointed to the Ministry of Public Enterprise. Mr. Kiriella told Parliament on Thursday that the Government was still looking for a foreign partner to come on board with a 49 per cent stake.
The sources said that route rationalisation including reducing the number of weekly flights on some sectors is among the changes planned.

Former banker Ranjit Fernando, a close associate of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, is tipped to be appointed as the new Chairman of the ailing national carrier, SriLankan Airlines, sources said.
Sources also revealed that existing directors Rakhita S Jayawardena and Harendra Balapatabendi might remain on the new Board, which is expected to be appointed within a few days.
Current Chairman Ajith Dias and six directors of the board offered to resign late last year, in support of the Government’s restructuring plan.
Meanwhile, SriLankan Airlines’ top management presented its restructuring plan to the Government last week. The restructuring plan was the brainchild of the United Kingdom-based aviation consultancy specialist, Nyras.
“They (Nyras) have prepared a detailed proposal on the way forward with a restructuring plan for the carrier, and have submitted this to the Government for initial approval.
The proposal will also be presented to the Cabinet shortly,” the sources said.
The officials, however, did not disclose the details of the report.
The Government has appointed a Ministerial Subcommittee under Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and a top-level official committee headed by Treasury Secretary Dr R H S Samaratunga to recommend the strategy to revive the loss-making national carrier.

What about the latest corruption investigation? I guess the public doesn't need to know.
How much money has been spent on Commissions, Investigations and Consultants? Zero result and a complete waste of money imho.
Does anyone know the history of Ranjith Fernando? Is he suitable for chairman position at UL?
Just a continuation of the policies that have destroyed the Airline.
The situation is well beyond fixing at this point - replacing a few people will achieve nothing.Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find this business

SriLankan Airlines and Air Seychelles have entered into a special prorate agreement that will enhance their respective route networks and provide greater travel options in a seamless manner to passengers of both airlines with effect from 1st April 2018.
Accordingly, passengers on SriLankan Airlines will have expanded options to fly on Air Seychelles to Johannesburg, Mauritius, Madagascar and the domestic destination of Praslin in the Seychelles.
Passengers travelling with Air Seychelles will be able to purchase through-tickets for SriLankan Airlines flights from Seychelles to Colombo, and onwards to Mumbai, Bangkok, Singapore, Tokyo, Beijing and Hong Kong.
SriLankan operates a route network of 105 cities in 47 countries from its hub in Colombo, with a fleet of modern aircraft.

Issue is not Aircraft...issue is the cost at which is been ordered
If UL could not make any profit on A332 (which are extremely lower least cost compared to A350s) on FRA and CDG...how does A350 which are more expensive to operate would generate profit???
I thought the A359order is going to be changed to different aircraft e.g. A330 or A321 😞

Usually late: 900 SriLankan flights delayed in a month
