Mr Nishantha Wickramasinghe, the statement added, had agreed to introduce a direct flight from Sri Lanka to Madurai since the airport bilaterial agreement between India and Sri Lanka has included Madurai Airport and Srilankan Airlines have sufficient rights to introduce more flights to Indian destinations.
Did flight UL 215 bound to Bahrain make a 'mayday' landing last Sunday
it's said in this unofficial article that pilots managed to land the plane successfully although the engines failed.
using an older aircraft for the flight is said to be the reason.
Highly doubt if they have enough pax to Kuwait.I got to know that they have a pretty decent load factor on DXB_KWI and KWI-DXB sectors.UL offers the cheapest fare between those two destinations as a full frill airline. This doesn't seem to be a good idea at all.

Lower your fare > The lower your yield > The more losses you make . The load factor in no way can determine the success of a route in the modern day. It actually is better to have terminator flts as it reduces Direct Operating Costs and most importantly increases connectivity (if UL227 is operating, departing at 1305, you will miss connections from KUL/SIN).

Totally baseless. First of all, there was no UL215 BAH on 2DEC. The flight on 3DEC operated with 4R-ABL and actually arrived in BAH 15mins ahead of schedule.

DXB-KWI is a highly saturated route with legacies such as Emirates and Kuwait as well as no frills such as FlyDubai, Air Arabia and Jazeera. It is a fair assumption that the yields would therefore be low.
There is a significant amount of traffic form KWI connecting to destinations beyond Colombo such as KUL and BKK and this traffic may not use UL if they have to endure two stop overs.
Point to pont flying is the order of the day and UL is doing the right thing here.
Sri Lankan Airlines is planning flights to Nepal and Bangladesh in 2012 and is increasing frequencies to India from December 23, the carrier said in a statement. http://www.lankabusinessonline.com/f...?nid=749489233
SriLankan will also expand its service to Karachi in Pakistan to a daily service from December 23. Karachi also has easy connections to China, the airline said.
