I heard rumours that CAASL is not giving the authority to fly the aircraft, therefore the aircraft will be scrapped/stored I guess. The technicians who flew it down to Colombo have left the country after abandoning it in Colombo, insisting that they don't want to take it back to BRU or so.

Sorry about that brother. Have you made a complaint at the baggage counter in CMB?
Send us an email to cus.bge@srilankan.com with your ticket details, contact number, baggage tag number, PIR number (baggage complaint number at the airport) and a small brief about the damage. Once sent, If possible share your email here. I'll look into that.

              • Air India expands flights to Colombo

Air India is going to increase the direct flights between Delhi and Colombo before end of this year.

Air India is currently operating 7 weekly flights on the Delhi-Colombo route, eventually, the service will be increased from 7 to 12 weekly effective 15 December 2018. The additional 5 weekly flights are scheduled to operate onboard Airbus A320.

Delhi-Colombo route is also being operated by SriLankan Airlines with double daily onboard Airbus A320/1 aircraft. Air India's expansion plan into Colombo might blow the expansion plans by Vistara which was planning to begin Delhi-Colombo service from October 2018 but Vistara's plans still not been materialized.

                          • Lankan owned Peace Air to take wings on Feb. 4

                            Business
                            Shirajiv Sirimane

Creating aviation history, Sri Lanka’s first privately owned airline, Peace Air is scheduled to be airborne from February 4 (Independence Day), Chairman Peace Air Pvt Ltd, Gamini H. Wethasinghe told ‘Daily News Business’.

“Peace Air will be operating daily direct flights to five new destinations in China, starting from Wuhan under the first phase of our operations.” The other four destinations that would be included to the schedule are Xi, An Urumqi, Chongqing and Hardin. “We have also tied up with a leading Chinese travel agency to market these routes and they have guaranteed us of an 80% load factor and large volumes of Cargo.”

From March Peace air plans to operate flights to Indonesia targeting the Umrah (Muslim Religious traffic) and then to Saudi Arabia targeting Haj passengers. “This too would be a daily flight.”

Weththasinghe said that they will initially take delivery of a new 747 aircraft for the Chinese sector which would be a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner which could accommodate 265 passengers. This would be followed up by a Boeing Deamliner 787-10 that could accommodate 330 passengers.

The new airline has already placed order for these two brand new 747 aircraft with Boeing and will also look at buying eight other aircraft.

He said that they will initially obtain US$ 2 billion investment from US and Chinese investors for this operation.

Peace Air will also deploy a 15 member US crew including pilots for a period of six month and they will be gradually phased out replacing them with Sri Lanka crew who are working overseas. “We will use SriLankan Catering,” he said

He ruled out operating flights to Mattala and said the Hambantota airport would come under their radar when they look at operating flights to Indian destinations towards mid next year.

Peace Air will also open their passenger sales office in December at Green Lanka Building, Nawam Mawatha, Colombo 02. “We also hope to offer commissions for airline travel agents in Sri Lanka,” he added.

Even with this expansion I have a strong feeling that Vistara would enter the Lankan market some way or the other. They have a highly differentiated product on offer when compared to the overall lousy product and service offered by AI
I’m hoping that Vistara could serve DEL as well as BOM in the near future and fill in the gap left by 9W

                              • Sri Lankan Airlines chairman Ranjith Fernando resigns

Sri Lankan Airlines chairman Ranjith Fernando resigns

AG makes submissions at Supreme Courts; says President's gazette dissolving Parliament not unconstitutional

Veteran banker Ranjith Fernando has resigned from the post of chairman Sri Lankan Airlines after serving around six months at the helm of the national career following a customary procedure during the change of government, informed sources said.

Mr. Fernando told the Times Online that he tendered his resignation to the Transport Ministry Secretary after the newly appointed cabinet minister’s assumption of office allowing him to appoint his nominee to head the airline.

However there was no immediate confirmation of the stepping down of other members of the Board of Directors comprising Mano Tittawella, Susantha Katugampala, Dr. Roshen Perera, and Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy.

Mr. Fernando was chosen to head the board based on his experience in transforming the then state-owned National Development Bank where he served from its inception in 1979 until his retirement in 2001.

He has functioned as Secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Chairman of several public listed companies and the UDA. (Bandula)
