  • SriLankan Airlines will add 5 new destinstions in 2020

    SriLankan Airlines will add five destinations - Ahmedabad, Calicut, Katmandu, Saigon and Sydney – next year. It will also fly to Africa, Middle East and the Far East on code-share agreements with other carriers to bridge the gaps in the network, the Group CEO of the airline, Vipula Gunatilleka said.The airline which completes 40 years on September 1 plans to implement cost saving initiatives including fuel saving measures for the fleet. “At the same time, the impact of global terrorism, trade tensions and climate change must be addressed,” the CEO said.

    “Our objective is to become the most customer-centric airline in Asia, both in the air and on the ground, building on our four decades of excellence in customer service for which we have won numerous international accolades with our emphasis on safety, punctuality and service,” he said.

    • Air India delays Mumbai – Colombo launch to late-Oct 2019

      Air India in recent schedule update further delayed planned Mumbai – Colombo route, now scheduled from 27OCT19, instead of 20SEP19. Service revision also sees the Star Alliance carrier schedules this route as 7 weekly flights, instead of 5.

      Airbus A321 operates this route.

          • Sakurai Aviation's NAMC YS-11 is on for sale. I think things didn't work out to plan. It was never registered in Sri Lankan registration thus it never flew after being in Ratmalana for the past few months.

              • A Singaporean company has won the bid*to renovate the piers of six A 330 - 200 aircraft of SriLankan Airlines.

                Safran Landing Systems Services, Singapore had won the tender through a Limited Bidding process, a cabinet proposal of the Finance Ministry said.

                Cabinet approval had been granted to award the tender to the Singaporean Company for the renovation of the piers between August 01, 2019 - July 31, 2020.

                      I think they wanted to start passenger flights in and out of the country (to India I suppose), but I think things didn't work out to plan.

                          They are too old, need new aircraft, was on one yesterday and I thought I was seated on a wooden plank and I got a neck pain as well.

                                Safran Landing Systems Services Singapore has won a deal to repair landing gear of Airbus A330-220 aircraft operated by state-run SriLankan Airlines.

                                The cabinet of ministers had cleared the award of maintainance contract for landing gear for a year starting from August 01, 2019 on six A330 aircraft, the state information office said.

                                The deal was awarded following limited tender.

                                SriLankan Airlines operates A330, A320 and A321 aircraft.
