My guess is its just pandemic management? Corontine facilities might be located in southern Sri Lanka. So it's better to use HRI than CMB?

                  • 4R-ALS has been painted as SriLankan Cargo. Does this mean the aircraft is going to become a dedicated freighter aircraft? Does it still have pax seats?

                    • Another picture of 4R-ALS converted to a cargo aircraft. Aircraft has a few seats at the aft for the crew, but the BC and EY seats are all removed to my knowledge.

                      • Sri Lanka airline eyeing flights to Korea, China, Australia, Maldives from August

SriLankan Airlines is planning to fly to Korea, China and Australia if the airport is re-opened for passengers from August as planned in the Covid-era, amid ongoing efforts to boost cargo carriage and slash costs to survive, officials said.

If Srilankan adds more flights to China in future, Johanesburgh and Nairobi should be on cards too.

                        • Hi Haleef, Do you know when 4R-ALS due to enter dedicated freighter service?
I think its good idea to use 4R-ALS as a dedicated cargo aircraft instead of carrying cargo using new A333

SriLankan Airlines to Korea? Is Korean air going to discontinue Colombo flights? Wonder how the network is going to be for SriLankan after COVID19.

                            • This would seem to be a good time to convert this older and odd (not matching the rest of the A330 fleet) 4R-ALS into a REAL cargo plane, by taking out the rest of the pax interior, floor, overhead bins etc, and installing a large main deck cargo door (and reinforced floor). Maybe the long term business case is not an easy one to make, but older pax ac often end up as cargo planes anyways.
