Travellers going to Africa, North & South America benefits from flying via ADD, not much for Europe. Most of the flights out to North and South America from ADD have a technical stop in Africa or Europe for refuelling due to high altitude at ADD and takes more longer for the outward segment.

Srilankan flies to SYD,FRA,CDG,MXP,ICN these days. UL should keep flying to these destinations during post COVID to say competitive.

      • According to below news, SriLankan Airlines aircraft has done an emergency landing at MAA. I saw on FR24, Dhaka to Colombo flight operated by 4R-AND (A321neo) was diverted to MAA.

I wonder why News reporter is saying flight was operated from Doha and news publisher is showing A330 on the news page. Really confusing. Does any body know more about this?

...a good write up on the history of Emirates including a mention of the involvement in UL. It makes you wonder where UL would be today if the contract wasn't abruptly ended and UL was still under EK management ? ?

If i recall it correctly below are the SriLankan Airlines Aircraft Fleet and Routes just before EK pull out of the contract from SriLankan Airlines in 2007.

I have also listed the fleet / network as of 2001. So you will know how SriLankan long haul network affected after Damn LTTE attack at CMB in Jul 2001.

So you can compare the above against the 2019 SriLankan Fleet and Network under the current management.

Im talking only about the fleet and network not about the profit and loss.

Guys guess what would be SriLankan Airlines fleet & network would be now if SriLankan Airlines is still with Emirates

Look at the stupid looking logo EK has forced on UL.
                Horrible!!!

Emirates would have taken over all the profitable routes .
Sri Lankan would only be left with a few regional routes and a few A320/ 319s

like Milan and Rome... previously operated by Srilankan... I remember when in 2009 Srilankan started again Milan, the attitude and behaviour of some EK ground staff changed drastically

Its a pointless topic to discuss.. Especially when most people have little or no knowledge of how the commercial aviation industry works. For UL the downfall hasn't been about matching up routes with A/C type etc.. It has been about mismanagement. Unless that issue is addressed UL will continue to lose.
