      most important thing is are SL passport holders allowed to travel into and out of the country (given they have the necessary testing done)....

        - Passenger Flights to Singapore has been increased from 1 to 3 weekly
        - SriLankan Airlines is resuming passenger flights to Kuala Lumpur

        Does any one know if any changes going to come in SriLankan Airlines route network next year?
        It's good to see MEL, SYD, FRA, MXP are still online.. notsure what happened to CDG?

            • Batticaloa Airport recommenced domestic scheduled operations from Colombo International Airport – Ratmalana with Fits Aviation on 11th December 2020. FitsAir will be operating twice a week flights on Monday and Friday.

              • SriLankan Airlines steps towards maindeck freighters



                After launching cargo-only flights with a reconfigured A330-200 this year, SriLankan Airlines is looking at dedicated freighters as part of a plan to return the airline to profitability by 2022.

                The carrier, which conducts most major procurement activities through a bidding process plans to issue a tender notice for two freighters, Ashok Pathirage, chairman of SriLankan Airlines, told UAE-based The Nation this week.

                SriLankan told Cargo Facts in July that it was considering full freighters to further grow cargo revenue amid dismal passenger demand. In June, the carrier took the first step toward adding a full freighter when it removed seats on an A330-200 in its fleet. Clearing the seats added an additional 60 cubic meters of volumetric capacity to the main passenger deck, bringing total capacity to 170 cubic meters. Reconfigured, the A330-200 can haul a max payload of up to 45 tonnes.

                At the time, SriLankan had not settled on whether it would stick with A330 freighters, but we note an A330-200P2F conversion from EFW can carry up to 60 tonnes, according to a brochure from the conversion house.

                Prior to the crisis, SriLankan operated an all-Airbus fleet of A320s, A321s, A330-200s and A330-300s.

                Around 192 passenger aircraft have now been reconfigured for cargo operations through seat removal, according to the Cargo Facts passenger freighter database.

                  Im not sure leasing more aircraft is a good idea for UL. If im not mistaken half of the current fleet is already grounded at CMB.

                  May be UL better focus on doing the full P2F conversion for 4R-ALS with main deck cargo door to allow to carry large cargo in the passenger deck etc.. May be doing the P2F conversion for some more of the A332 fleet would be good if more cargo capacity needed.

                  • Sri Lanka next week will open its international borders for limited air travel for the first time since the island nation went into lockdown in March. Further openings are under consideration for January 2021.

                    “We are expecting limited passenger flights from Russia and China to land in Sri Lanka on the 26th of December as a short term plan,” said P. A Jayakantha, additional director general of the country’s Civil Aviation Authority. He said a final decisions on whether the airport should begin receiving passengers in a full-fledged scheduled may be finalized in January.

                    I wonder which airlines is going to serve between Colombo and Russia & China? which destinations?

                      Definitely...if you can remember, eygypt air cargo did the same in 2017. First of its a332 passenger version aircraft converted into a freighter. Now they're operating 3 p2f a332s. I see lots of a332 owend airlines convert the aircrafts into p2fs when the aircrafts getting older. It is costly not efficient comparing to its a333 big brother. When it comes to freighters, the fact not makes big problems to the airline.

                      Recently, i heard about qatar airways pasing out its a332f fleet. In the past, they maintained 5 a332fs. They leased out 2 of them to sichuan air cargo and wow air cargo. The remaning 3 wil go for another operator.

                      My mind is if sri lankan looking for a newer one it will make long term investment for the airline. Because they're younger than others. If sri lankan looking for a p2f aircraft, the best option is to convert 4r-alh or als into p2fs.

                      What's your opinion....??? Sri lankan should have a cargo airline.

                        Yes, as the previous management extended the lease period on some of the A332 (which was clearly unhealthy for the airline but hoping it will be a "blessing in disguise"), converting them to P2F would make sense rather than capitalising on A330Fs right away. I think UL can now make a good use of these old jets if converted to P2Fs rather than for PAXs as the onboard product is old and will cost alot money for maintenance as well. Looks like Ashok's statement "We'll be a better airline post-COVID" will become a reality.

                          ALA ALB ALC are all 20+ years with extended leases. Would have been perfect for cargo...

                            I think P2F conversion is more suitable for ALH & ALS since the expiry of lease for ALH is 2026. Spending money on P2F conversion for ALA, ALB, ALC may not be suitable since lease is ending in just next 3 years time. Please correct me if i am wrong.

                            In below annual report say, "Undertake to lease one A330-200 aircraft in 2017 (Lease term 10 Years". Is it referring to ALS ?
                            I wonder which MJ A320 was leased for 25 Months in Nov16. Is it MRE? In that case , MRE must have been left the UL fleet end of 2018
