However I did hear from a source at UL that most of the A320 narrow body fleet as well as the NEO's are not in fully operational condition (maybe still in storage) I also heard that UL are paying a very high leasing fee for most of the newer aircraft and operating some of them aren't profitable... I always question as to why UL decided to lease out 2 A320neo's which do not serve any purpose and should have opted for either the A220 or Turboprop aircraft to serve lower yielding sectors to India and Maldives and also for domestic flights... I think the other airlines are positioned to make better calls and management decisions rather than having to negotiate with UL which i feel would be a waste of time -

Spark Air to commence flight operations
The new local Airline, Spark Air has requested official permission to commence flight operations in Sri Lanka. The airline has had lengthy discussions with Mr. Prasanna Ranatunga Minister of Tourism and respective officers today (15th) about conducting flights.
From the discussions held today, they have agreed to begin flights very soon here in Sri Lanka.Comment

It will be an effective operator if they start of flying to Colombo from Abu Dhabi as it will be even better with UK connections. Wizz has been saying “they will expand their operations further more towards Asia”since the beginning of its operations in AUH. Singapore Airlines is going to increase Colombo flights from 3 to 7 weekly from 1 May 2021. Additional four weekly flights are going to be operated by B737.
The group’s Colombo route is currently a three times weekly Singapore Airlines Airbus A350 Regional operation. The firm schedule from 1st May 2021 has not yet been finalised, but it currently shows that three times weekly Airbus A350 Regional overnight operation will continue as SQ468/469, supplemented by four times weekly daytime service with these Boeing 737-800s as SQ464/465

Sri Lanka has submitted 11 travel destinations that the national carrier — SriLankan Airlines would like to operate in India under this program to the Civil Aviation Authority of India and Embassy of India. These destinations include; Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Trivandrum, Kochi, Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta and Tiruchirappalli.
“We are hopeful that the necessary approval will be considered soon by the Indian authorities to commence the project,” Chanaka told the Daily FT.
