  • Sri Lankan start-up Air Ceilão has applied to the country's civil aviation authority for an air operator's certificate and hopes to be in the air by May 2025.
    An Air Ceilão spokesperson confirmed to ch-aviation that the AOC application was submitted and that the carrier aimed to start operations using two A320 Family aircraft.
    Previously, Air Ceilão chairman Janith Kashan said he wanted to harness Sri Lanka’s strategic position as a regional aviation hub and would initially operate to "key destinations in the Middle East and Asia Pacific."

    The Air Ceilão spokesperson says the network plan for the first year of operations includes:

    five weekly roundtrips between Colombo and Dubai International;
    five weekly roundtrips between Colombo and Doha Hamad International;
    five weekly roundtrips between Colombo and Chennai;
    four weekly roundtrips between Colombo and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi;
    four weekly roundtrips between Colombo and Singapore Changi; and
    three weekly roundtrips between Colombo and Malé.

    If Air Ceilão secures the necessary licences and gets off the ground, it will become Sri Lanka's fourth active scheduled operator, alongside SriLankan Airlines, FitsAir, and Cinnamon Air

      They are probably going to be using A320 narrowbodies as stated above. They said that they will be expanding to widebodies after that.

          weird thing though is that FR24 showed altitude as 200ft after landing and in the taxi out to its stand.

            I think a lot of A380s of EK and QR pass through CMB in the air. and in a chance, one gets a technical problem to land in CMB.
            as for A7-APC,(SYD-CMB-DOH) maybe it's that CMB is between Australia and Qatar that made it land at CMB first and then go to DOH.(or that (I don't know if this is true) CMB's parking charges are lower than other A/Ps)

            Hi MAW, Haleef, n863gt and all, I heard in this forum 4R-MRE due to leave the UL fleet in 2025. Is this going through end-of-lease checks ? or will return to UL fleet after maintenance ?
            If MRE was lsd for 10 years lease(from AerCap), It would be returned in May I guess ("leased from AerCap May 2014" says planespotters)

            good signs for ALH though. any idea when it will be in the skies again?(after a month of 'grounding')

                    Yeah, it is a common bug in FR24, happens all the time.

                      Good morning,

                      Hi, I think they will be getting A320Ceos, A320Neos are very hard to get these days, so they will be using A320Ceos for now since they are cheaper to maintain compared to the Neos, and also, I will let you know if plans change and if they decide to go with A320Neos instead..

                      Thank you!

                        Good morning,

                        Hi, a lot of A380s pass through the Maldives compared to Sri Lanka, During Cyclone Fengal a lot of A380s began passing through SL airspace once more, however, it seems like it is back to normal, I have spotted only some A380s passing through our airspace, like DXB-SYD, DXB-BNE, etc.. but not a lot I suppose.

                        Also, I noticed that A7-APE, the A380 that diverted here yesterday was flying over Maldivian airspace, over Gan I believe before it did a U-turn and then headed to CMB, It is quite strange they didn't land at MLE but instead chose CMB, but I think it is due to runway restrictions..

                        Thank you!

                          might be runway and stand restraints as you said.

                            I hope if UL stops flying to small indian cities, like IXM TRV TRZ, VTZ, and focus on long haul routes like LHR FRA CDG, NRT, AMS, MXP Then 8D can takeover these routes.

                            However As per the Winter schedule DAC frequency is increased, from 2 weekly to 3 weekly flights. Time was changed and flight number was changed from 8D911/2 to 8D931/2.
                            No any frequency changes in CMB DXB CMB.
                            Hi Maw, Any reason why 8D changed DAC flight number from 911/2 to 931/2?
