This picture was taken when 4R-ADA in Doha during sand storms while was dirverted during flight CMB-RUH on the 2-3-2015. Thanks to Sakith & umedhah for sharing the pic. Finally 4R-ADA came back to Colombo from Doha/Riyadh as UL266D.

Is it confirmed 4R-ADA going to retire from April 2015 ? 4R-ADA replacement aircraft 4R-ALN will be flying the first revenue service to London (Heathrow) route on 5-Apr 2015.

Although I love those A340's, a four engined aircraft has higher fuel costs.
But, I would love to spot Srilankan 340-600's :-)

            Kind regards,

Has Sri Lanka found a oil reserve recently that would enable them to get fuel cheap? If not why would UL want TG A346.. which are being taken off fleet for obvious reasons i.e. high operational cost?

Ummm! There is something wrong in the news. Actually Shanghai bound SriLankan flight (UL866) was delayed today by three hours due to hydraulic leak in the aircraft. Any idea about the rego ? My guess is 4R-ALH?

Bad news : Flydubai to cancel the flights to Mattala from 30 Apr 2015.
Good news : Emir of Qatar expressed his desire to take the Mattala International Airport on lease. Mattala Airport is a Chinese funded project. It operates at a loss as no aircraft lands at that airport. It is learnt that the State of Qatar has agreed to take it on lease in a manner that Sri Lanka would not incur loss” : http://www.slguardian.org/?p=27389

Board of Inquiry has found shocking details of corruption running into billions of dollars, manipulations of service contracting, recruitment of unqualified staff and major security breaches at SriLankan airlines under the former government, the Prime Ministers’s office said in a statement.

The panel headed by anti-corruption advocate and senior lawyer J. C. Weliamuna found instances of gross abuse of power by former chairman Nishantha Wickramasinghe whose penchant for young air hostesses cost the debt-ridden airline even more problems.Srilankan

The former government of President Mahinda Rajapakse made management changes to carry out a re-fleeting of the airline with brand-new aircraft costing $2.3 billion despite the availability of more cost effective alternatives.

The Weliamuna report recommends criminal investigations into the entire re-fleeting process and have noted instances where former chairmen Wickramasinghe, a brother-in-law of Mahinda Rajapakse, should be prosecuted
