  • Sri Lanka's central bank has announced an 8.00 percent overnight policy rate dropping the earlier policy corridor, with its standing facilities kept at 8.50 percent to print money and 7.50 percent to take out excess liquidity.

I doubt it will actually come to this - a decree will be issued from Temple Trees.

It does show what a disaster the financial situation at UL is.

So sad to hear all the things happening to Sri Lankan airlines which had the best service. So the airline will come to a complete stop in a few days?

That's not clear - nobody knows when the money will run out. Those that do aren't talking.

All the "Big Talk' about restructuring appears to be just that - talk. All the claims about renegotiating the aircraft leases and orders appear to be nothing more than wishful thinking.

Apparently there's still money to pay Suren's ridiculous salary and I'm sure he'll leave with his requested severance.

Sri Lankan Airlines owes the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation a sum of Rs 13.45 billion. Reports suggest that the Airline is preparing to obtain a loan from a private bank in order to make payments to the CPC.

          • Shouldn't be anymore loans to UL - there is no way any of this money will ever be paid back as there is no way for UL to ever make money.

This is all Politics - just more losses for the people of Sri Lanka to absorb.

Why should the people of Sri Lanka have to pay a single Rupee of the UL debt while Suren and others pocket absurd amounts of money with zero accountability?

Would a private bank even loan money to UL given their current situation?

Easy - the loan will be guaranteed by the GOSL. This means the taxpayers are on the hook for another $85 Million.

This is the only way UL will get any money - there is no way UL can pay back any of these loans. Everybody knows this.

Hopefully the IMF will put a stop to this - they've already stopped any direct investment in UL by the GOSL.

Sorry, but no idea. Checks are taking longer than expected. Wonder what is there to be checked so much.

                          • UIA Ukraine Airlines is going to increase the frequency of KBP-CMB flights from 2 to 3 weekly effective 22-July-2018.

Very sad Austrian Airlines has announced they will discontinue the VIE-CMB flights from end of Oct 2018

                              • Good to see some SriLankan technicians based temporarily in Qatar on Airbus 350 training, as for the LATAM/Qatar 350 operation to CMB - our technicians need a bit more experience and training it seems. As I heard some of them are coming to Colombo on ALK218 tomorrow, and the next batch is on their way to Qatar at the moment.
